Well after a long delay and the welcomed arrival of my son, Codename: Val Kilmer, I returned to the mountains. Boomer and I wanted to do an easy one to get started so we choose Stinson Mt. Stinson Mt. is included on the 52 with a view list. It is a bit of a drive to Rumney, NH but we had done Mt. Major so much and I already had this trip mapped out from a few years back so we made the commute. The trip takes you to Stinson Lake, which is a very nice looking area that not only did I not know existed but did not look too overcrowded.

The trailhead is down a dirt road, that was in good shape. The trail itself is very easy with great footing. The rocks were a bit slick due to the heavy rains the night before, but due to the overwhelming dry summer their was little mud on the trail. The entire trail is in the woods until you reach the summit where the foundations of an old fire tower still exist.

Looking south.

Looking southwest towards Mount Cardigan and the Groton Wind Farms.

Mount Cardigan

A spur trail on the summit is supposed to take you to a nice view overlooking Stinson Lake. We could not find this or the view from the spur trails we did find were overgrown. The trip down the mountain was even faster once again due to the great footing on this trail.

The mileage is only off by approximately a half of mile. Trimble Outdoors is retiring their software and service so I will have to find a new tracker shortly.
